A GIFT OF MOBILITY FROM WHEELS FOR HOPE

Changing lives through mobility for Western Australian families with disabilities.

Just a few weeks shy of Christmas, nine-year-old Riley and his family received a very special gift: A shiny new wheelchair-accessible Toyota HiAce.

Riley is diagnosed with a form of Cerebral Palsy that requires the use of a wheelchair and other assistive technologies, as well as 24-hour care and support for daily living.

The loan vehicle, provided by charity Wheels for Hope with funding support from a Stan Perron Charitable Foundation community grant, will allow Riley to travel safely and comfortably to school, medical appointments and other activities without needing to transfer to a specialised car seat.

Family outings previously meant shifting in and out of his wheelchair — made all the more difficult as Riley grows.

Riley’s mum, Joy said the HiAce’s modifications, including a rear wheelchair hoist and restraints, will make future outings much easier.

“This is truly life changing. Just to be able to “pop” in to see friends and go out together as a family,” said Joy.

Founded in 2011, Wheels for Hope is a Western Australian charity improving mobility and quality of life for people with disabilities by providing loan wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
