Secret Harbour Surf Life Saving Club (SHSLSC) have been keeping the beaches of Rockingham safe for more than 40 years and are committed to giving all kids the chance to learn surf skills for fun and safety.

The club’s Starfish Nippers program is open to children aged six and up who need extra help accessing surf skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Over eight weekly sessions, participants learn basic skills like how to read the surf and understand beach safety information while also playing water games designed to build their fitness and confidence.

A community grant from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation allowed the club to offer heavily discounted memberships to families in need for 2023’s program.

The additional funding also helped the club to purchase new gear for participants and appoint the Starfish Nippers’ first ever team captain, Isaac.

Secret Harbour SLSC Office Manager, Karen Walker said the latest group of Nippers were already making a difference to the community with their enthusiasm for the programme a great asset for the Surf Club.
